Just one month after releasing the Infinix hot 8, Transiin Holdings, the company behind Infinix released the S5, a phone which is currently available through pre-order.
While the 2GB variant of the hot 8 retaiks at between Ksh. 10,000 and 12,000, the S5 goes for Ksh.16,499.
Thats quite a huge price gap, and in this article we are going to compare the two phones spec by spec to find out if the S5 is justified to sell for such a price range, or if the Hot 8 is a better bargain.
Though both phones have a number of similar specs, the S5 seems to have some slight advantage over the hot 8, but is that a justification of the huge price range?
The hot 8 measures approximately 165 x 76.3 mm and is 8.7 mm thick, while the S5 measures 164 x 76 mm and is 7.9 mm thick, just 0.1 mm thicker.
While the hot 8 feature a water drop notch which houses the front camera, the S5 has a nice punch hole situated at the top left corner as shown in the pic above.
Display.
Both phones feature an IPS LCD screen which is 6.52 inch for the hot 8 and 6.6 unch for the S5.
The hot 8 has a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels with an aspect ratio of 20:9 and 432 ppi pixel densities.
On the other hand, the S5 has a similar 720 x 1600 pixels and 20:9 aspect ratio and a 270 PPI.
Both phones therefore have quite a low resolution and videos will not be that good on such screens.
Software.
Both phones are Powered by Mediatek Helio P22 and both have an octa core CPU with a maximum clock speed of 1.8 Ghz for the hot 8 and 2.0 for the S5.
They also run on android 9.0(pie) which is an upgrade from the android 8.1(Oreo), atop the XOS 5.0
While the hot 8 come in two variants of 2 GB and 4 GB, the S5 is 4 GB with internal storage of 64 GB.
That is quite a huge RAM for any phone in their price range, and with the intelligence of the android pie you will definitely enjoy the experience that these two phones can deliver.
If the 64 GB is not enough, then you can expand it all the way up to 256 GB with an SD card.
Cameras.
While the hot 8 has a tripple camera set up with dual LED flash, the S5 has a quad camera setup.
The hot 8 has a 13 MP main camera and 2MP depth sensor, the S5 has a 16 MP main camera, 5 MP uktrawide lens, a 2 MP low-light sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor.
Both have panorama and HDR support, and shoot videos in 1080p@30fps.
The hot 8 has an 8 MP front camera while the S5 has a 32 MP selfie camera.

the above discussion, the S5 has slight advantages over the hot 8 which are:
- Slightly bigger display.
- More RAM
- More powerful front camera.
- Quad camera set up.
Though I highly doubt if many will notice the difference between their displays, you will have to ask yourself if the above additions are enough to warrant that extra price.
