Redmi Note 9 Pro Vs Nokia 8.3 |
While the Nokia 8.3 5G has been with us for a while now, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 5G has just been launched in China. The phone has already attracted alot of reception something largely attributed to it's high end specs at a price that is almost four times lower than that of it's close competitors. In this post we compare the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 5G Pro and the Nokia 8.3 5G Spec-wise so as to give you a detailed comparison of the two 5G Smartphones. Later we look at the pros and cons of one device over the other and their price comparison.
Both the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G and Nokia 8.3 5G are highly durable phones made of a Gorilla Glass both front and back. The Redmi Note 9 Pro measures 165.4 x 76.8 x 9 mm while the Nokia 8.3 measures 171.9 x 78.6 x 9 mm. This means that the Nokia 8.3 is much taller and wider than the Redmi Note 9 Pro though both have the same thickness of 9mm. Both are also very heavy phones with the Nokia 8.3 weighing 120g and the Redmi Note 9 Pro at 115g. These are not phones for everyone and will require two handed operations most of the time. The bulkiness could be largely attributed to their Glass built and big batteries.
The back of the phones also almost look identical due to the circular camera modules, something that has been largely attributed to Nokia smartphones. However the circular module of the Xiaomi is much bigger and pronounced than the one of Nokia. The color gradients are very different and there's no way you will confuse the two phones, with the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G available in shades of Grey, Blue and mint while the Nokia 8.3 is available in only one color of Polar night.
Display.
The Nokia 8.3 has a 6.81 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. It supports HDR10 and has a pixel desnity of 386 ppi. On it's part the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro has a 6.67 inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2400 pixels and also supports HDR10. The slight advantage is the 120hz refresh rate. Both have an aspect ratio of 20:9.
Cameras.
The two phones also have almost the same camera performance both having a quad-rear cameras and single selfie cameras. The Nokia 8.3 has a 64MP primary lens, a 12MP Ultrawide lens, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. The Redmi Note 9 Pro has a 108MP primary lens, an 8MP Ultrawide lens, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. Though the Note 9 pro has a primary lens with a slightly higher resolution while Nokia 8.3 has Zeiss branded lenses I don't see much differences in their camera performance, especially noting that both phones don't have a telephoto lens so both don't have optical zoom. They also can shoot 4K videos. Nokia 8.3 has a 24MP selfie camera and the Redmi Note 9 Pro has a 16MP selfie camera.
Software performance.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G, a 8nm fabricated chipset that can handle multitasking and gaming pretty well. The Snapdragon 750G has a top clock-speed of 2.2 Ghz. The Nokia 8.3 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, a 7nm chipset with a top clock-speed of 2.4Ghz.
The Redmi Note 9 is available in three memory variants of 6+128, 8+128 and 8+256GB while Nokia 8.3 is available in memory options of 6+64, 8+64 and 8+128GB. Just like in the cameras I also don't see much differences in the performance of the two phones but due to a much cleaner OS I would give it to Nokia here.
Battery life.
While the Nokia 8.3 feaatures a 4,500 mAh battery with 18W fast charge, the Redmi Note 9 5G has a slightly bigger 4,8200 mAh battery with a much more powerful 33W fast charge which can deliver 100% charge in just 58 minutes.
So, which one of the two phones should you go for?
This question can have different responses but due to the huge price difference of the two devices there's no doubt who is the winner here.
Both phones have almost similar specs including the same display quality, almost the same performance as well as almost the same design.
