Nokia 6.1 specs and price in Kenya 2021

Nokia 6.1 plus, also known as Nokia X6 is a phone that has stood the test of time, and proofed itself over and over again. With a price tag of between Ksh. 12,000 and Ksh. 19,999, you can get yourself a Nokia 6.1 Plus anywhere in the country in 2021.
The phone has everything you would be looking out for in a phone at it's price range,
From the screen display, the processor to the operating system. The X6 will not disappoint, and will comfortably handle any task you throw at it with ease.

Nokia 6.1 Plus Specs overview.
First launched in August 30th 2018, the phone became the third device in the Nokia 6 series taking over from the Nokia 6.1 of 2018 which was the immediate successor of the Nokia 6 launched in 2017.
The Nokia 6 was the first Nokia Android phone after the company ditched it's Windows Lumia devices, and the Nokia 6.1 plus on it's part becomes the first Nokia phone to spot a notched display, something that was a must have in 2018 mid-range smartphone segment.
With a Launch price of Ksh. 31,900, the device placed itself squarely at the mid-range-segment, but it's premium design and outstanding beauty makes this phone look much more expensive that it actually is.
Made of a Glass front and back with an aluminum frame that's just 8mm thick and smooth curves, the Nokia 6.1 plus looks quite amazing and anyone that gets a chance to have this device will definitely fall for it.
And not just the design, but it also spots some of the best smartphone features that you can get at it's price range including a powerful processor, huge RAM and nice cameras among other exciting features.
The Nokia X6 features a 5.8 inch IPS LCD screen with a Full HD+ display resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a pixel density of 432 ppi.
The display is pretty good, and apart from the LCD screen, it competes well with many mid-range and high end Smartphones in 2021.
Display contents appear sharp and full of detail, making it an ideal display for videos and gaming.
Being a 2018 phone, it comes with a notched display, and while it might appear slightly outdated it still looks good enough, HMD having done a good job in trying to make it as small as possible.
The display has a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection so you won't worry about scratches and cracks, something that's a huge plus for this device.
In the camera department, the Nokia 6.1 Plus spots a Dual camera setup with a 16MP primary lens and a 5MP depth sensor. This might not be a camera centric Smartphone like the Nokia 9 Pureview or the Xiaomi Mi Note 10, but it still produces good enough pictures full of detail especially with sufficient lighting.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus Pros and cons.
  • Lovely compact design with a Corning Corilla Glass 3 both front and back, with an aluminium frame that gives the phone a premium feel and look.
  • A good full HD+ display with 1080 x 2280 pixels and an impressive 432 ppi pixel Density.
  • A powerful Snapdragon 636 processor that can handle multitasking and gaming pretty well.
  • Good cameras with dual sight mode that allows taking of videos and photos using both the back and front cameras simultaneously.
  • USB-C 2.0 support with fast charge 3.0 support.
  • Part of Android one program which ensures timely software and security updates.
Some of it's noticeable downsides include:
  • A smaller battery of 3060mAh which can last barely a day with normal use. This could mean your phone could spend a good amount of time on the socket if you're a heavy phone user.
Nokia 6.1 plus price in Kenya.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus had an initial retail price of Ksh.30,000, but has since dropped in price significantly and is now at the budget phone segment. It is available in three Variants of 4GB + 32GB, 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 64GB. Of the three, the most common in the market is the 4GB variant, and therefore should be careful lest you buy the 32GB variant at a price of 64GB one.
Nokia Kenya sells the phone at Ksh. 27,000, while Jumia Kenya currently sells the 4 + 32GB at Ksh. 12,890 and Ksh. 16,890 for the 4 + 64 GB one.
Based on it's spec list and price, the Nokia 6.1 plus now faces a stiff Competition from the likes of Infinix Redmi series phones like the Redmi Note 8 and the Redmi Note 9, the Infinix Note series including the Infinix Note 8 and 7, the Tecno Spark series among other budget smartphones.
The only slight disadvantage that the X6 has over most of these Competitors is the big notch, with most phones now featuring a waterdrop notch or an infinity O display, and the smaller battery considering that many phones at this price range have more than 5,000 mAh batteries.
However the advantage that the Nokia 6.1 plus has over most of the above is the high quality display and the compact metallic Glass body. Most phones at this price range have a 720p HD display and are largely made of plastic.
You can also check out Nokia 6.2 which has almost the same price and specs with the Nokia 6.1 Plus.
If you would like to consider some alternatives to this phone, then you can go for the Infinix Hot 10, the Nokia 2.4 and realme C12 and C15. While most of these phones won't really match up with the X6, they still have good performance that comes almost close.

Lovely Design.
As earlier mentioned, the Nokia 6.1Plus is a phone that is beautifully designed, well curved and has an expensive finish. Every part of this phone is well done, with a stunning edge to edge design that gives it a seamless look.
It measures 147 x 71 mm and 8 mm thick, slightly slimmer than the Nokia 6. At just 151 g, it is the lightest of all Nokia phones, hence can be comfortably used with one hand without any strain.
Its curved design makes it fit perfectly in your palm and nicely in the pocket.
Though this phone has a notch, the smooth finish gives it a nice look.
In order to increase the beauty of this phone, Nokia decided to drop the aluminium body and opted for a 2.5D glass which gives the phone a seamless look, with 93% of the phone being glass.
The Camera module is placed at the centre back with the fingerprint scanner just below it. Both have a shiny chrome ring round it which complements it's beuty.

Good display
The X6 has a 5.8 inch screen with a full HD+ display of 1080 x 2280 pixels, a good display for a phone at it's price tag. This is the same resolution found on the Nokia 7.1 and 8.1, as well as most mid-range Smartphones of the sub-30K price category including the Samsung Galaxy A50, the Tecno Camon 16 Premier and the Infinix Zero 8 among other mid-range devices.
The high resolution coupled with a slightly smaller screen results to a good pixel density of 432 ppi, and with an aspect ratio of 19:9, you will definitely enjoy watching videos and gaming on this device.

Software.
Like many Nokia phones released 2018, the Nokia 6.1Plus runs Android 8.1(Oreo), but is readily upgradable to android 10.
Being part of Android one program, you don't have to worry about malware or bloat ware, as the phone comes with a clean version of android with no unnecessary pre installed apps. The Android one platform also ensures timely security and other software updates so this phone will remain relevant for a long period of time to come, an advantage over other Smartphone brands
It also comes with google apps including the google Assistant.
Android 10 also has amazing power saving features, a plus to almost all Nokia phones which have slightly smaller battery capacity.
The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 with octa-core 1.8 Ghz kyro 260 CPU.
Powering this phone is a powerful snapdragon 636  processor which has a number of features including dual camera set up, 4 K video recording, wireless charging and much more.
It is also the same chip found in Nokia 7.1, Redmi Note 5 pro, Lenovo Z5 among other phones.
The only issue I have with the snapdragon 636 is it's slightly lower clock speed which is 1.8 GHz, while the Snapdragon 630 found in the 6.1 has a better speed of 2.2 GHz.
The processor handles multitasking pretty well, and combined with the 4 or 6GB RAM you will love how apps open and scroll on this phone. Gaming is also good though you might realize a slight struggle when handling heavy graphic intensive gaming, bit considering this is a 2018 phone we must give it up to Nokia for coming up with such a powerful phone that has remained competitive over a number of years, and will probably still be relevant for another number of years to come.
It comes with either 32 or 64 GB internal storage, enough for many smartphone users but if that will not be enough you can epand it all the way up to 400 GB via an SD card. However you will have to sacrifice your secondary Sim, since it uses Sim 2 shared slot.

Though this phone doesn't have Zeiss optics which is a common feature in many Nokia phones, the cameras in the 6.1 are highly sensitive dual with dual LED dual-tone flash.
It also has some extra features including panorama, HDR and bokeh which allow you capture studio-stye shots.
There also a number of image and video editing tools including filters, stickers and masks with dual sight photos and videos.

Battery.
This phones comes with a non removable Li-ion 3060 mAh battery, which is quite small as per 2021 standards. Such an amount of battery juice will last you just over a day with ordinary use, and despite supporting quick charge 3.0 it doesn't come with a fast charger on the box, and will have to look for one or get contented with the 18W adapter that comes with the phon. On 15th February this year, Samsung announced the Galaxy F62 a mid-range Smartphone that becomes the second to feature a massive 7,000 mAh battery. can last you up to a day with a single charge.
Conclusion.
The Nokia 6.1 plus is a phone that is easy to fall for right from the design, the processor and the camera.
The android 10 with android one are a plus for this phone, and if you won't mind it's slightly outdated notch, then this phone is still a good buy even in 2021.
