Oppo Reno 10x Zoom price in Kenya 2021

In April 2019, Oppo announced what it was going to be it's new flagship smartphone, the Reno 10x zoom.

The phone was later released June this year, and officially took over from the Find X as Oppo's flag bearer.
On 23rd July this year, the Reno 10 X was launched in Kenya with an initial retail price of Ksh.89,999.
That's quite a huge sum, though we would expect less of any flagship device.
Whether such an amount is justified or not, we will cover it in our next article, but for now we're going to give you what you will enjoy or rather what you will miss; if you don't buy this phone.
What comes to everyone's mind when Oppo is mentioned is cameras;-the main selling feature for  Oppo.
And the Reno 10x has quite some tech  packed camera system- but first:

Price and availability in Kenya.
The phone currently retails at between Ksh. 55,000 and Ksh. 65,000but is not available in many stores due to it's low demand. Priceinkenya is selling one for Ksh. 65,000 but you will have to wait till it b comes available.
At such a price tag, the phone currently competes with the likes of Samsung galaxy S20FE, Samsung Galaxy M51, Nokia 8.3 and Huawei P30 Pro a, Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro and the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11 among other top mid-range Smartphones.
Samsung galaxy 10+ is also available at a slightly higher price.

The design.
This is quite a huge phone, measuring 162 x 77.2 mm and 9.3 mm. So it is not a slim phone, and weighing 210g, its also quite bulky on your hand.
For those who love light small phones, definitely this is not for you.
It is made of glass, both front and back, with an aluminium frame.
Thankfully enough both front and back have Corning Gorilla glass protection, 6 in front and 5 at the back.
That totally gets rid of scratches, but you will have to be careful since glass back might feel slightly slippery.
Oppo was very critical to ensure the back of the phone looked as good as possible, and there is no single bumb including the cameras which are neatly tugged in at the centre of the phone.
In order to avoid scratching the camera lenses when you place the phone on a flat surface, there is a small round button which Oppo calls 'the O-dot that is placed just below the cameras.

Display.
The reno 10 x zoom has  a 6.6 inch AMOLED capacitive full screen display with almost zero bezels.
The front of the phone feels quite premium with no notch or dot to destruct the premium feel.
The pivot rising front camera setup ensures uninterrupted full-screen experience.
The rising pivot is made up of the front camera including its LED flash, receiver and the rear flash all neatly tugged away in what Oppo calls the 'Shark fin pop-up mechanism'.
Though for some reason Oppo decided to drop the curved display in the Find x, the Reno 10x looks quite impressive.
With a Full HD+ display of  1080 x 2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9
The aspect ratio is another confirmation that this is quite a huge phone.
The 6.6 inch screen however is quite huge for such a resolution resulting to a slightly lower pixel density of 387 ppi.
Many premium smartphones have a pixel density of 400, though you will probably not notice any difference in this case.
One thing is for sure; that Oppo did a good job with the display which makes it one of the selling specs of this phone.
You will definitely enjoy watching movies, playing games or streaming online content on this phone.

Software.
The 10x zoom runs on Android 9.0 pie on top of Oppo's own color  6 OS.
It is powered by Snapdragon 855 processor with octa-core (1x2.84Ghz kyro 485 & 3x2.40 GHz kyro 485 and 4x1.8 GHz kyro 485)
The 6 or 8GB of RAM is the icing on the cake, to ensure you get the best out of your phone.
Coupled with such a powerful chipset, you won't have any problems with multitasking or gaming, including the power intensive ones.

Oppo Reno 10x zoom specs and price in Kenya 2021

In February 2019 during the MWC, Oppo announced a number of innovations including the under-display camera, Mesh talk technology and the 10x zoom mechanism.
Of all these, the last is what features prominently in this phone, hence the name reno 10x zoom.
At the MWC, Oppo claimed that they have intelligently solved one of the greatest obstacles of Smartphone photography; the inability to achieve optical zoom.
Usually Optical zoom requires moving lense parts, which sometimes are quite long and bulky.
Introduction of such lenses would therefore make a smartphone quite bulky and heavy.
In order to solve this problem, Oppo introduced a 5x optical zoom telescopic camera set up, which were placed lying flat along the width of the phone.
A prism was then placed beneath the telephoto lens in order to refract light at an angle of 90 degrees towards the sensors.
Though the reno 10x is the first Oppo phone to feature 10x zoom, 5x optical and hybrid zoom, it is not the first phone to feature such a setup.
What didn't go down well with many is the fact that this phone is actually 5X optical zoom, and the rest is optical zoom. Therefore it wasn't fair for Oppo to mislead it's customers with the 10x zoom key phrase.
In march this year, Huawei released what was going to be the world first smartphone to feature a 5x optical zoom; the Huawei P30 pro.
The Oppo reno cameras are:
  1. A 40MP wide lens 1/2.0", f/1.7 with a 26mm focal length and IOS.
  2. Telephoto periscope of 13 MP, f/3.0, 130mm with IOS (dual optical image stabilization)
  3. 8 MP ultra-wide lens, f/2.2, 16mm with Aouto Focus.
According to Oppo, all three cameras work together to produce the perfect shot as possible.
There are also a lot of features to play with including beauty filters, Panorama and portrait mode with artifial bokeh.
All these including the zoom are available within the camera app.
Though I have not tested the phone cameras physically, it seems as if the phone performs poorly at low light despite the ultrawide lens.
Conclusion.
Being a 2019 phone, the Oppo Reno 10x is still a good buy in 2021, it's good hardware, cameras and design the major selling points of this phone till now.
