Realme C3 is one of the few realme budgets phones available in Kenya at a retail price of Ksh. 15,999. It was announced and released February 2020 by the phone manufacturer realme.
Seen as the successor to the Realme C2 , this phone has a surprisingly close resemblance to the realme Nazro 10 A both phones having a number of similar specs including the same screen size, display resolution and the same battery among other Specs.
The C3 features a 6.5 inch IPS LCD screen slightly bigger than the 6.1 inch of it’s predecessor the C2. It has a display of 720 x 1560 pixels and a pixel Density of 264 ppi as well as an aspect ratio of 20:9. This is also the same with the realme Nazro 10A.
The phone was the first to feature the Mediatek Helio G70 processor, an entry-level gaming chipset that has gained a lot of traction in the budget Smartphone segment with a number of phoned including the Infinix Note 7, Infinix Hot 10 and realme Nazro 10A already powered by this Processor. The 12 nm Octa-core chipset has a top clock speed of 2.0 GHz and a gaming accelerated GPU that has an enhanced gaming performance. However this is still an entry-level processor that cannot compare with the likes of Mediatek Helio G90T.
Just like the realme Nazro 10A, the realme C3 also features a triple rear Camera setup made of a 12MP primary camera, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor the same as the realme C2. In front is a single 5MP wide angle lens for your selfies.
The phone comes with a non removable 5,000 mAh battery with 18W fast charge and realme claims the battery can last you 43.9 hours on calls, 19.4 hours online music, 20.8 hrs online movie streaming, 10.6 hours playing PUBG and 727.7 hours standby. The battery also Supports reverse charging and can be used as a power bank.
The phone is available in two colors of Frozen Blue and Blazing Red, and despite having a plastic back it comes with a scratch and fingerprint resistant coating. The volume buttons are placed at the Left sides and the power button at the right side. On the bottom is a MicroUSB port and the 3.5 mm jack port.
Basic Info.
Price: Ksh. 15,999.
Realme C3 Design.
Realme C3 is a beautifully designed phone, available in two colors of Blazing Red and Frozen Blue. It might be as elegant as the Nokia 2.1, but you can see that realme did their best to give us something that would be worth the money.
The phone is made of a Glass front, Plastic back and a plastic frame. While I loved the Blazing Red color on it’s textured back, I could not help but still have that general feeling that this is a cheap phone.
At the front is a 6.5 inch display with a minidrop notch, with very thin bezels at the top and sides of the phone. However the bottom chin is quite large and ruins the overall front look of the phone.
At the back is a vertical camera module placed at the top left that houses the Triple rear camera lenses. The edges of the module are somewhat too curved, almost like in the Xiaomi Note 8. However unlike in the Note 8, realme have done a good job in keeping the module as flat as possible this eliminating the camera bulge.
At the top center is the fingerprint scanner and the vertical realme branding at the bottom left completest the back look of the phone.
The buttons on this phone are slightly different from what we’ve gotten used to in so many phones. At the Left side are the volume rockers as well as the Sim tray. The power button is the only button on the right side, and at the bottom of the phone are the Micro-USB port and the 3.5mm jack port.
Performance
As mentioned earlier, the realme C3 was the first phone to feature the Mediatek Helio G70, a 12nm fabricated entry-level gaming chipset. Backed by 3GB RAM the phone can handle multitasking and light gaming pretty well, but might realize some lagging when playing high graphic games. However the game space feature slightly improves the gaming experience under such conditions.
Being a 2020 phone, realme C3 runs Android 10 OS atop realme UI 1.0, and like other budget smartphones you will get a number of pre-installed apps.
Cameras.
Realme C3 comes with a total of four cameras, three at the back and one in front. The rear cameras are made up of a 12MP primary lens, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro lens. At the front is a single MP selfie Camera.
At good lighting conditions the rear Cameras produces decent photos with detail are good enough for your social media photo needs. However atlw lighting the phone struggles to produce good pictures and you will notice some noise resulting to slightly blurred and color distorted images.
The selfie camera likewise produces relatively good photos that are expected of a phone at this price tag. Overally the camera performance of the realme C3 is fair though they won’t quality this phone as a camera phone.
The C3 can also shoot 1080p videos.
Battery.
The realme C3 has a 5,000 mAh battery that is big enough to meet the power needs of this phone and will last you upto two days with normal use. It also has a 10W fast charge but this might not make much of a difference and it will still take you well over two hours to fully charge this phone’s Battery. Like many realme phones the C3 also Supports reverse charging so you can use it as a power bank to charge other compatible phones and devices. If you need something slightly bigger but with almost the same specs as this phone then Realme C12 could be your best option.
Conclusion.
While the realme C3 is a worthy upgrade of the realme C2 with a nice design, fair display and sizable battery, with a price tag of Ksh. 15,999 this phone feels slightly over priced.
