Safaricom PLC have finally Launched the much awaited 5G Network in Kenya, becoming the first Telecommunications provider in the country to do so. Though it is still at commercial trials, the new move has stired a new demand for 5G Compatible phones, and many Kenyans now want to know which phones are compatible with Safaricom’s 5G network. |
Almost all major phone manufactures have a number of 5G phones, very few are available in Kenya, but with the latest development we will see an increase in 5G phone sales.
According to Safaricom, the Telco will first connect selected phones from Huawei, Nokia and Samsung with the said phones available at all Safaricom shops countrywide.
Among the first phones to be connected are Huawei Mate 30, P40, Nokia 8.3 and Samsung Galaxy S21 series.

Released October 2019, the Mate 30 has a 6.62 inch OLED display with HDR10 and is IP53 rated. It runs EMUI 10 based on Android 10 and is powered by Kirin 990 5G.

Nokia 8.3.
Announced March 2020, the Nokia 8.3 did not become available for sale till October 2020, a huge delay that could have greatly affected the overall sales of this mid-range 5G Smartphone.
It features a 6.81 inch Pureview display, 6GB RAM and 64 GB of storage, though there's another variant with 8GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. The phone supports almost all mobile technologies including GSM, HSPA, LTE and 5G. It is believed to be the first Smartphone to support all 5G networks out there, but it's critics question it's lack of mm wave support and somewhat outdated specs including an IPS LCD panel and lack of Bluetooth 6 compatibility.

Samsung Galaxy S21.
Announced and released January this year, the Galaxy S21 is the most affordable of the S21 Galaxy Series, a 5G phone with a number of high end specifications including a high quality display and a top notch ultrasonic Under-display fingerprint sensor.
The Galaxy S21 has a 6.2 inch Dynamic 2x AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and 1300 nits maximum brightness.
