The Snapdragon 870 5G is a 7nm fabricated chipset released by Qualcomm January this year with a mission to allow construction of mid-range 5G smartphones.
It is largely seen as an upgrade of the Snapdragon 865 Plus released last year and has an Octa-core processor with a top clock-speed of 3.2 GHz which is slightly better than the 3.1 GHz of the 865 Plus. It’s Adreno 650 GPU is capable of delivering smooth and fast graphics rendering.
The Motorola Edge S became the first smartphone to feature this chipset, and upto now there a number of 5G mid-range phones already powered by the chipset.

The Motorola Edge S.
The Motorola Edge S is a low mid-range 5G smartphone that is almost considered a budget phone in some regions. It features a 6.7 inch IPS LCD screen with 90Hz refresh rate, HDR10 and 560 nits brightness. It has a Full HD+ display resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels and an impressive pixel density of 409 ppi.
The Edge S has a Quad camera setup with a primary 64MP lens, can shoot 6K videos and is powered by a non removable 5,000 mAh Li-po battery with 20W fast Charge.
Redmi K40.
The Redmi K40 was announced February 25th this year together with it’s bigger siblings the Redmi K40 Pro and the K40 Pro+.
It has a 6.67 inch Super AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and 1300 nits maximum brightness. It has a Full HD display of 1080 x 2400 pixels the same as the OnePlus 9R and the Galaxy S20FE among other 5G phones.
The Redmi K40 also features a Triple rear Cameras with a 48MP primary camera. It can shoot videos of upto 4K and is powered by a Li-po 4520 mAh battery. It’s 33W fast charge can achieve 100% charge in 52 minutes.
Oppo Find X3.
In March 11th, Oppo launched their Find X3 flagship phones with the Find X3 featuring the Snapdragon 870 5G while the X3 Pro spots the Snapdragon 888 processor.
The Find X3 is a good mid-range phone with a number of high end specs including a good QHD display with an LTPO AMOLED panel, 1 Billion colors, HDR10+ and 1300 nits maximum brightness.
It also features a Quad rear camera setup with two 50MP lenses, the primary and the Ultrawide lens. The other two are the 13MP telephoto and a 3MP macro.
It has a 4,500 mAh battery and as expected of Oppo it comes with 65W fast charge that can achieve a 40% charge in just 10 minutes.
Xiaomi Mi 10s.
The Mi 10s was announced March 11th as the smallest sibling of Last year's Mi 10 series which featured some of the best specs on a smartphone as at their Launch. While the Mi 10 launched Snapdragon 865 plus, the Mi 10s on it’s part comes with the Snapdragon 870 5G and has a 1080p display with 90Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ and 1120 nits maximum brightness. It also spots Quad-rear Cameras with a primary 108MP Sensor and can deliver 8k videos at 30 frames per second.
The OnePlus 9R.
The OnePlus 9R was announced March 23rd as part of the OnePlus 9 series, and is expected to start selling as from April 14th.
It is a mid-range 5G phone with a 6.55 Fluid AMOLED panel and a 1080p resolution. It also spots 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+.
At the back are four cameras with a 48MP primary lens and can shoot 4K videos. It is powered by a 4,500 mAh battery with 65W fast charge that can achieve 100% charge in just 39 minutes making it one of the best Smartphone fast charging systems currently available.
The Vivo X60.
The X60 was Launched March 22nd together with the X60 Pro both spotting the Snapdragon 870 5G. Their bigger sibling the X60 Pro+ has the Snapdragon 888 chipset.
The X60 features a 6.56 inch screen with Full HD+ display resolution of 1080 x 2376 pixels. It also has a 120hz refresh rate as well as HDR10+.
At just 6.4 inches thick it is the slimmest of all phones in this list and could be the major reason why it has a 4,300mAh battery which looks slightly smaller. Thankfully it comes with a 33W fast charger.
Vivo X60 Pro.
The X60 Pro has a number of similar specs with the X60 including the same display size and quality as well as the same processor. Both phones also feature the same Triple-rear Cameras with a 48MP primary lens, a 13MP portrait lens and a 13MP Ultrawide lens.
Black Shark 4.
In March 23rd, Xiaomi announced their latest gaming phones, the Black Shark 4 and Black Shark 4 pro. While the pro version uses the Snapdragon 888, the Black shark 4 is powered by the Snapdragon 870 5G. These are having focused phones, ment for heavy gamers and comes with everything you would imagine of in a high end gaming phone.
The Black Shark 4 has a 6.67 inch Super AMOLED display with an impressive 144Hz refresh rate and a 720Hz touch sampling rate. This makes them one of the most sensitive display phones and gamers will appreciate their sensitivity.
Just like the previous versions, the Black shark 4 serie feature the side mounted gaming buttons which are more designed than in previous versions.
The phone is available in a number of memory versions of 6/128GB, 8/128GB, 12/128GB and 12/256GB.
Motorola Moto G100.
Just like Xiaomi, Motorola seems not to get enough of this powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G chipset, and after the Motorola Edge S, they launched another Snap 870 phone March 25th known as the Motorola Moto G100.
It features the same 6.7 inch IPS LCD display with 90Hz refresh rate and HDR10. It also has a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2520 and a pixel density of 409ppi.
It also comes with a 5,000 mAh battery with 20W fast Charge and a Quad rear Cameras.
