The Oppo A12 was announced and released April 2020 as a budget smartphone that is now available in Kenya for Ksh. 14,999.

The phone features a 6.22 inch IPS LCD screen with a display resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels, an aspect ratio of 19:9 and a 270 ppi pixel density. The display of the Oppo A12 is the same as that of the Nokia 3.4 with a 6.26 inch screen and 720 x 1520 pixel resolution as well as the same aspect ratio.

The Oppo A12 comes with Android 9.0 atop ColorOs 6.1 slightly older than many 2020 phones which ship with Android 10. The phone is powered by the Mediated Helio P35, a mid-range processor that is now coming down to the budget segment.

The Helio P35 is a powerful processor that handles almost all tasks pretty well including multitasking as well as gaming and is a good alternative to the Snapdragon 429, 450 and 460 chipsets. This is also the same processor in the Tecno phantom 9 and the Samsung Galaxy A12 among other budget and mid-range Smartphones.

The processor in the Oppo A12 is backed by either 3 or 4 GB RAM with the 3GB one coming with 32 GB of internal storage and the 4GB Variant coming with 64 GB all dual SIM with an option to choose between Blue and Black colors.

The phone comes with a Dual rear camera setup of a 13 MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The Nokia 3.4 on it’s part comes with a single 13 MP Camera with no secondary lenses while the Samsung Galaxy A12 has Quad cameras made of a primary 48MP lens, a 5MP ultrawide lens, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. Going by the primary lenses, the Galaxy A12 is slightly superior in terms of camera performance to both Nokia 3.4 and Oppo A12.

The Oppo A12 is powered by a 4,230 mAh battery a size that’s almost becoming standard to Oppo with no fast charge support and uses the older Micro-USB 2.0 port instead of the USB type-C like the Galaxy A12.

The 3+32 GB Oppo A12 is currently retailing at Ksh. 14,999 a fair deal considering the Specifications of this phone. 

At this price the Oppo A12 competes with the likes of Nokia 2.4, Nokia 3.4 and Samsung Galaxy A12.
