The Samsung Galaxy A51 is one of many 2020 mid-range Smartphones from Samsung that is currently seeling at Ksh. 26,999 for the 4+128GB variant. The phone was Launched December 2019 and like many Samsung mid-ranges banks on the display, Cameras and the battery as it’s major selling specs. 

It features some of the specs expected of a phone at it’s price and while it’s successor the Galaxy A52 is already available in the country the Galaxy A51 is still a good phone to go for. 

The Galaxy A51 features a 6.5 inch IPS LCD screen the same size as the Galaxy A52 and smaller than the 6.7 inch of the Galaxy A72 by just 0.2 inch. It has an AMOLED panel which is a big plus for this phone considering that many phones at it’s price tag still come with IPS LCD panels. It's display resolution is a Full HD + of 1080 x 2400 pixels the same as the A52 and A72 and while it doesn’t come with 90Hz refresh rate it’s 405 ppi pixel density is quite impressive and makes this phone one of the best display phones under 30k. At the top centre of the display is a punch hole cutout that houses the selfie camera.

The phone is made out of a plastic back with a Corilla Glass 3 front another feature that is still hard to come by at this price. This ensures zero screen scratches and gives your phone the maximum durability that is a preserve of flagship devices. Unlike the Galaxy A52 and A72 that have a 67 IP rating, the A51 is not IP rated meaning it’s not dust and water resistant. 

Being a 2020 phone it ships with Android 10 atop the One UI3.1 and thankful it is Android 11 ready. It also spots the Exynos 9611 processor. This is a 11nm chipset from Samsung and based on many reviews of the Galaxy A51 this Processor is not good enough for this phone making it very slow when multitasking and even when opening apps. This could also be the reason why Samsung settled for the Snapdragon 720G in the Galaxy A52. 

You can choose between a number of memory Variants of 4+64 GB, 4+128, 6+128,8+128 or 8+ 256 GB. However the 4+128GB variant is widely available in Kenya. You can also choose between three lovely color variants of Prism Crush Black, Prism Crush White and Prism Crush Blue.

In the camera department the Galaxy A51 comes with a total of five Cameras four in the rear and one in front. The rear cameras are made up of a primary 48 MP wide lens, a 12MP ultrawide lens, a 5MP macro lens and a 5MP depth sensor. 

The camera performance of this phone is quite good and outperforms many phones at it’s price tag. The highlights of the camera prowess of this phone is the front 32MP selfie camera that produces very good selfie photos. The A51 is one of the budget phones that Support 4k video recording.

The phone is powered by a non removable 4,000 mAh battery with 15w fast charge support. This battery can last you well over a day with a single charge.

The Galaxy A51 is currently retailing at a price of between Ksh. 26,000 and Ksh. 35,000 depending on the amount of memory. Jumia Kenya is currently selling the 4+128GB at Ksh. 26,999 and the 8+256GB at Ksh. 34,290 making it one of the cheapest phone in the country with such an amount of memory. 

At this price the Galaxy A51 competes with the likes of Infinix Note 8, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 pro , Xiaomi Resmi Note 9 and Note 10 series most of them much cheaper with better performance. 

The 4+128GB Redmi Note 9 is currently retailing at Ksh. 20,499 a good deal considering it’s Specifications.
