Released May last year, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro is now available in Kenya with a retail price of Ksh. 23,499. It is a budget phone that has a number of improvements as compared to it's younger sibling the Redmi Note 9 including a bigger display, better protection as well as a much powerful processor.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro features a 6.67 inch IPS LCD screen slightly bigger than the 6.53 inch of the Redmi Note 9 and the same size as the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. It also comes with a Full HD + display of 1080 x 2400 pixels the same as other Xiaomi budget phones including the Redmi 9 and Redmi Note 8 Pro making these phones the very few high quality display budget phones. Many smartphones at this price range still come with 720p displays including the likes of Infinix Note 8.
Unlike the Note 9 which is made of a Plastic back, the Redmi Note 9 Pro features an impressive Corilla Glass 5 screen both in front and back something that is also hard to come by at this price. This ensures zero screen scratches and gives your phone the maximum durability that is a preserve of flagship devices.
Being a 2020 phone it ships with Android 10 atop the MIUI 12 skin and going by Xiaomi’s past trends this phone could be entitled to an Android 11 update. It also spots a much more powerful Snapdragon 720G processor as compared to the Mediatek Helio G85 processor in the Note 9. This is probably the cheapest Snapdragon 720G phone others being the Samsung Galaxy A52, Vivo V20 and Oppo Reno 4 among other mid-range smartphones.
You can choose between three memory Variants of 6+64 GB, 6+128 or 8+128 GB available in Tropical Green, Glacier White and Interstellar Gray.
In the camera department the Redmi Note 9 Pro comes with a total of five Cameras, four in the rear and one in front. The rear cameras are made up of a primary 64MP wide lens, an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 5MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. Supported Camera features include LED flash, panorama and HDR, and can shoot 4k videos. In front is single 16MP selfie camera which can shoot 1080p videos.
The phone is powered by a non removable 5,020 mAh battery with 33W fast charge much better than the 18W in the Redmi Note 9.
