The realme GT and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus are two great phones with a number of similarities, but also have a number of diffrences. The Galaxy S21 Plus is a flagship phone from Samsung Electronics which one of it’s 2021 flagship devices. The phone sits in the middle of the less expensive Galaxy S21, and offers an alternative to the more premium and expensive Galaxy S21 Ultra.
If you live in the US you will be lucky to get your Galaxy S21 Plus powered by the Snapdragon 888, the same processor in the realme GT which is considered the best 2021 flagship killer after OnePlus decided to go up the price ladder with their $1060 OnePlus Pro leaving those who wanted to get a phone with a flagship performance without having to dig deeper with almost no alternative if realme hadn’t come to their rescue.
While the Galaxy S21 Plus costs around $999, the realme GT costs almost half the price at around $540 for the base variant. While these smartphones have a number of similarities including the same Processor, display resolution and the same memory sizes, there are a number of sacrifices you will have to content with in order to have a Snapdragon 888 processor phone at half the price of other similar phones. What I like about the realme GT is that realme were very keen on what they were going to let go for a much more affordable price without affecting the overall performance of the phone, and weather the realme GT is a true alternative to the more pricier Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus you will find out in this close comparison between these two flagships which share some specs but are worlds apart as far as pricing is concerned.

Design.
Both the realme GT and the Galaxy S21 Plus are very beautiful phones expected of flagship phones. The Galaxy S21 Plus is made of a Gorilla Glass front with a plastic back and an aluminum frame, a slight drop from the Gorilla Glass Victus both front and back of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The metal frame continues as a single unit to the camera module in what Samsung calls a contour cut design resulting in a beautiful design that is only eunique to the Galaxy S21 phones. On it’s part the realme GT has a plastic back with no Gorilla Glass protection, a luxury we will have to let go in order to get a flagship processor phone at almost half the price of it’s Competitors. The Galaxy S21 Plus measures 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9 mm while the realme GT measures 158.5 x 73.3 x 8.4 mm. This means that the S21 Plus is slightly shorter and thinner than the realme GT, though it is also slimmer by around 0.5mm which is quite big in the Smartphone World.
Bothphones are also light enough to be carried around easily and for one handed operations as well. The realme GT has a weight of 186g whioe the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus weighs just 169g. The low weights could be largely attributed to the use of plastic back as well as sizable batteries and the less demanding camera hardware which usually contributes a lot to a phone’s weight and bulkiness.
Both phones have very big rectangular camera modules at the back and you won’t fail to notice the premium feel of the S21 Plus Camera module design as we mentioned above.
A slight advantage that the Galaxy S21 Plus has over the realme GT is the IP68 rating making it dust and water resistant this eliminating the damages it could suffer in case of a drop in a shallow pool of fresh water. But still you will have to have to exercise some level of caution when using your phone near water.
Display.
The realme GT has a 6.43 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. It supports 120Hz refresh rate and has a pixel density of 409 ppi which is pretty good for a phone at this price. On it's part the Galaxy S21 Plus has a slightly smaller 6.2 inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x panel with a 1080 x 2400 pixel display resolution resulting in a pixel density of 521 ppi. The phone supports a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, HDR10+ and with a peak brightness of 1300 nits the phone can be used in all lighting conditions including directly under the sun. Both these phones have very high quality displays, and though in real life scenarios whe may notice slight differences technically we can say that both get the same score as far displays are concerned.
Cameras.
The two phones have a rectangular camera module Design with ttrioke rear Cameras. The realme GT rear cameras are made up of a Primary 64MP wide lens, an 8MP Ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro lens. While the performance of these cameras is as expected of a phone at it’s price, it doesn’t have what it takes to rival those of flagship phones like the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the OnePlus 9 Pro. The Galaxy S21 Plus on it’s part features a primary 12MP lens, a 64MP telephoto lens and a 12MP Ultrawide lens. While the telephoto lens is a key advantage of the S21 Plus o we the realme GT it is still slightly below the performance of the S21 Ultra. The phone can also shoot up to 8k videos with a new feature known as single shot that allows you pick the best image from a number of pictures taken while the subject is in motion. There’s also the director mode which allows dual video recording from both the rear and front cameras simultaneously with an easy switch between both cameras. You can also do a number of post production video editing as well as take still pictures from recorded video. Knowing too well that such high-res videos consume a lot of storage and there’s still limited 8k compatible screens realme settled for 4k video recording in the GT.
Software performance.
Both phones are powered by the
Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Processor which is the chipset of choice for high end 2021 smartphones. The realme GT is available in two memory capacities of 8+128GB or 12 + 256 GB. The Galaxy S21 Plus is available in 8+128 or 8+256 GB meaning there’s no 12GB variant. Though you might not see much different between a 8GB and 12GB RAM phone, the latter couod be very much useful when the phone is pushed to the limits especially when playing graphic intensive games. Both don’t have SD card Support.
Battery life.
While the realme GT has a 4,500 mAh battery, the S21 Ultra has a slightly smaller 4,00 mAh battery.
The S21 Plus Supports 25W fast charge which might not compare too well with the 65W fast charge of the realme GT which realme says it can deliver 100% charge in 35 minutes.
So, which one of the two phones should you go for?
First look at these facts:
Both the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus and the realme GT have the same display quality with 1080p resolution, HDR10+ and 120hz refresh rate, but the realme GT has a slightly bigger 6.43 inch screen as compared to the 6.2 inch of the S21 Plus.
Both phones feature the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and Android 11 OS.
The realme GT has two memory variants of 8+128 and 12+256 GB while the Galaxy S21 Plus has a 8+128 or 8+256GB.
The realme GT has a slightly bigger 4,500 mAh battery compare to 4,000 mAh of the S21 Plus and has a much faster 65W charge Support compared to 25W of the S21 Plus
The Galaxy S21 Ultra has a much more premium build of Gorilla Glass Victus front but both phones have a plastic back.
The Galaxy S21 Plus has a slightly better camera performance compared to that of the realme GT.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus has an average price tag of around $999 while realme GT has a price of around $540.
