How to transfer money between Mpesa Airtel money and T-Kash.

Send money across all networks
Months after Airtel Kenya and Safaricom announced their Mpesa-Airtel Money transfer interoperability, Telkom T-kas finally joined in, and now you can transfer money between Mpesa and T-Kash easily and conveniently.
Initially, sending money from one network to another was a cumbersome and costly process. By then, when one send money across networks, the recipient was given a voucher code through SMS, and had to withdraw the money before expiry of seven days.
Customers of the three telcos can now send and receive money across any of the three networks easily and seamlessly, and the money will be toped up directly on the recipient's wallet, and therefore no need to withdraw the money directly.
This post will take you through the steps on how to send money between Mpesa, T-kash and Airtel Money.

The mobile interoperability is a great achievement in the country, though of the three telcos, Safaricom don't seem pleased with the idea, and despite Airtel carrying numerous ad campaigns with their ' sasa mambo ni nyweee' slogan, Safaricom have remained mute on mobile money inter potability.
The fact that they never integrated the option on the mpesa menu and instead preferred USD is a clear indication to this.
However, if you have My Safaricom app, there is an option that allows you to transfer money directly from your M-pesa to airtel of Telkom without having to use USSD. To do so:
  • Log in to 'my Safaricom app'.
  • Go to M-pesa and select 'send money.
  • Click on 'send to one' and select 'send to other networks.
  • Enter the phone number you want to send money to. If you don't have the number off head and is saved on your phone book, click on the search button and it will automatically take you to your contacts list. Scroll and select the intended number.
  • Enter the amount you want to send and click continue. The minimum amount to send from mpesa to other networks is Ksh.100
  • A window will pop up where you will have to input your M-pesa pin and OK to complete the transaction.
The last phase of mobile money interoperability in the country is still to be realized, when Airtel and Telkom customers will be able to send and receive funds between the two telcos.
