One of the most misunderstood smartphone spec is the processor, and with many smartphone types out there, it is quite a difficult task to pick the one that feels good enough. When shopping for a new phone, the processor is the single most important spec, as it is the sole determinant of your phone's speed and overall performance. In this article we are going to try our best to guide you the various processor details you should pay more attention, and finally help you decide on which smartphone to go for. What is a smartphone processor? From the word 'processor', we can say a processor is something that processes information. It is what tells the phone what to do and how to do it, and can be generally termed as the 'brains' of the smartphone. And just as we know that there are various parts of a brain all working together in harmony, there are also various parts of the processor, which we can call them microprocessors that work together to bring the final result of m...

Here is why the Oppo Reno 2 launch was a huge miss and a big setback for Oppo.

Any parent Knows too well the feeling I am having right now for Oppo, a smartphone brand based in China. The feeling of seeing your child improve steadily in class; then one day..with no clear reasons, totally hates class work. This is exactly what Oppo has put us through, with their latest launch that should have well never happened. It first came as a tease that Oppo was about to launch the Oppo reno 2 with quad camera setup and 20 x zoom. Apart from the shark fin pop up, details about other specs were scanty, and like any other tech enthusiasts, all we had to do was try and predict what we would probably expect from the launch. Sure enough, we made some correct ones, for example I expected a 48 MP primary camera, and the reno 2 gave us just that. Come 28th August and as promised, Oppo gave us the reno 2 in an event in new Delhi India. The reno 2 even came with two siblings, the reno 2F and reno 2Z. This even made things look more worst.(will explain this later). Apart from the p...

Why the processor is the single most important spec to look out for in a smartphone and why you should pay more attention to when buying a new phone.

We all know that smartphones are becoming smarter and better each year, and are not just becoming "small" computers, but cameras as well. Though they are still way far from totally replacing the PC, smartphones now can do almost anything a PC can do, and much more what the same PC might not. Phone designs are also changing quite fast, and when buying a new one, you should get one that you will feel it is really worth what you paid for, and will be relevant for sometime before the need for replacement arises. Among the Key specs you should consider when buying a new phone are the display, battery and maybe the cameras. But what many don't know is that all these are determined by the processor. How? To answer this, we need to first look at the smartphone processor, and how it might be slightly different from that of your laptop or PC. What is a smartphone processor? A processor is what tell the phone what to do and how to do it. It is the one that executes the various progr...

Oppo stretches the limits of smartphone display with their new 'waterfall screen' display.

Image courtesy Oppo There has been a series of new smartphone designs for the last few years, with various tech giants trying to outdo each other, with some inventing new smartphone designed while others trying to come up with an alternative or try and catch up fast. Recent frontiers in phone design have been largely focused on the display, with an attempt to either give us a full screen display with zero bezels or fully utilize flexible displays and come up with foldable phones. In order to achieve as much display as possible while maintaining the phone size, various phone manufacturers have tried different approaches, according to how far their engineering capabilities could take them. The biggest challenge in achieving a full screen display has been the selfie camera, whichbis now a must have smartphone spec, the earpiece and the infra red sensors. While many manufacturers decided to go for a notch to house these components, Samsung decided to go for a more advanced hole-punch displ...

These are the new Nokia feature phones released by HMD Global

The New Nokia 220 4G HMD Global, the company behind Nokia has just released two feature phones, the Nokia 220 and 105. The 220 is 4G enabled while the 105 is only 2 G. What I like about Nokia is their consistent inclusion of the 700 MHz spectrum, commonly known as band 28 in its 4 G phones. This makes them compatible with Jio in India and faiba in Kenya, well known for their free 4G calls and VoLTE compatibility. The main interesting feature about these two new Nokia phones is their huge battery capacity, which is claimed to last up to almost four weeks. Though the 220 does not support this band, it is still good news that the phone supports 4G volte. In regions where there is no 4G network, you will have to be contented with 2G, since it does not support 3G. Nokia 220 4G key specs. Network: 2G and 4G. No 3G Screen size: 2.4 inch Display type: QQVGA OS:   feature OS Battery: 1200 mAh. RAM:  16 MB. Memory: 24 MB. No SD card slot. Camera: VGA 0.3 MP with LED flash.

Tecno Phantom series: All Tecno phantom phones released till date.

Tecno have just released the much awaited Phantom 9, a true 2019 midranger with some of the best specs that can only be  found on a high end device. Some of these including a full HD AMOLED display, an AI triple camera set up and 6GB of RAM. This awesome spec sheet puts the Phantom 9 well at the top of the Phantom series, which is Tecno's flagship series. Founded in 2006, Tecno now has presence in over 60 countries, well known for it's affordable smartphones with a focus in developing countries including Africa and parts of Asia. What has made Tecno successful in these markers that tech giants struggle to penetrate is their focus on the specs that matter most in such regions including large battery capacity, large screens and affordability. In oder to stamp it's presence in this market which was then largely dominated by Samsung, Tecno launched a number of smartphones in 2013, a gamble that paid off. Among the over 10 phones it launched that year was what was going to be th...

Oppos Mesh talk technology good news for users but not so for network operators

Oppo, the brand known for its revolutionary selfie camera technology has been fighting too hard to proof itself among the few world renowned tech giants and it's efforts could be almost paying off. While all the focus was on the under screen camera launch, Oppo decided to throw another surprise when it announced it's latest invention known as the mesh talk technology. At the MWC Shanghai on Wednesday 26th, Oppo said they have invented a way that can allow it's users send text and make voice calls without any cellular network, WiFi or Bluetooth connection. Though this will be quite useful during emergency situations, I am certain that no network operator will welcome this move like they rushed for 5G, and it is for two obvious reasons. The mesh talk will allow Oppo devices within a 3 Km radius communicate directly with each other by creating an ad hoc local area network(LAN), and this can be extended through a signal relay. This will allow free calls text and group chats wit...
